The last few weeks…

August 20, 2011

The last few weeks have been full of reflection, exploration and research.  A series of glaze test tiles are about to go into the kiln and more tests are on the way. I’ve created some new stamps from protyped forms which I’ll be showing off and explaining in an upcoming post.  Though the Hamsterpants may have run their course, they have led me to new organic forms that I am looking forward to sharing in the coming weeks.

Multi-tasking

June 15, 2010

Today while firing the kiln at Lucy’s I decided to work on wall thickness and height. Often my vases are heavy on the lower third so I decided to focus on balancing out the wall thickness while aiming for consistency in weight.

The tall pieces are about two and half pounds and about eight inches tall. The little peanut is about five inches.

In the meantime, I am holding my breath for a successful kiln firing. Stay tuned later this week.

Resist techniques

April 5, 2010

I am enjoying the effects of glaze layering and creating pattern. Here I am using wax resist over frost glaze, wiping away around the wax and dipping in another glaze. It will be interesting to see the outcome from the kiln and how the two glazes mingle side by side.

Current work out of the kiln

March 16, 2010

I am particularly pleased about these two pieces fresh out of the kiln.

The piece on the left is a white on white glaze combo using my frost glaze. It has the elegance I am going for. Unfortunately some of the color of the one next to it transferred over and there is a pale green on one of the sides making it a second. It is beautiful nonetheless.

I love the vessel on the left! What’s hard to see here are the three glazes at work.Under the shoulder the green mingles with the frost creating an interesting effect. From the top lip to the green the clear glaze an illusion of watercolor is creating in the washiness of one glaze atop another. The same is true on the lid knob.
